Monterey, TN
back
Buff Orpington chicks for sale. Straight run. 1 week old. $3.50 each. Ready for pick-up as early as Saturday, June 22. Cash only. (Please note, Barred Rock chicks shown in photo are not for sale).
Local chickens are healthy chickens! Temperature fluctuations during shipping is a leading cause of death in young chicks, while large-scale hatching operations can expose them to disease. By buying locally, you are setting yourself up for success rather than tragedy. Thank you for considering us!
Our hens are all free range, and you are welcome to see them during your visit. We rotate our breeding roosters to promote health via genetic diversity.
Robust and healthy, Buffs are good layers (200-280 eggs/yr) and table fare (roos up to 10lbs, table ready at 22 wks). Docile and mellow in temperament, they love to be petted and will quickly become lap chickens if handled daily. They are cold tolerant and frequently broody.
Considerations: Buffs need shade and cool water in the summer months. They have a tendency toward obesity due to their enjoyment of food, but are not the best foragers. They can potentially suffer from lice and mites due to their dense feathering, so make sure your Orpingtons have easy access to dust baths.
