Expired Ad Experienced Woodworker Needed
Features | Full-time Part-time |
You'll be working in a shop in Baxter that is clean and comfortably conditioned. You'll be building some of the finest hi-fi speakers currently being built anywhere in the world.
Flexible on hours/days
I think it would be a good idea if you lived not too far from Baxter
I need someone experienced with woodworking. Not construction, but woodworking. So here we go - first call this morning on the ad and I'm sure he's a nice guy, but he says I have experience in construction and roofing and I'd like to give it a shot. I'm sorry, but construction is very different from furniture making. Please, please, please, only contact me if you've got woodworking experience. Please read below
You'll need to know how to use a tape measure down to 32nds of an inch. When you come to interview, I will ask you to make pencil marks on a piece of wood, such as 23 - 23/32". I will also ask you to operate a router to put a round-over on a piece of wood. When you do that, I'll be watching how safely and effectively you handle the router, and how good the end result is. I'll ask you to sand a piece of wood with a random-orbit sander and I'll want to see if you're able to handle the tool as though you have experience handling woodworking tools. Flat, even sanding.
The reason for these tests that I'll ask you to do in an interview, is because I need someone experienced in handling woodworking tools safely and effectively. When I've posted these ads before, I get inquiries from people who are not experienced with woodworking but think they can do the job because years ago they helped their grandfather build a shed. I'm not trying to be snarky here, I'm making a valid point. Please don't contact me if you don't have experience with woodworking tools and woodworking in general.
I think it's perfectly reasonable for you to contact me if you've been doing woodworking for yourself, in your own small shop. That's fine. You don't have to have professional experience at a woodworking shop. I'm looking for someone who is willing to learn and expand on their past knowledge of woodworking. If you have done woodworking projects in the past, and can handle a router, table saw, and RO sander safely and effectively - and you can read a tape measure proficiently, then you may be the person I'm looking for.
You must be drug-free. You must be settled in your life and present yourself in a professional way when you come for the interview. You must have your own reliable transportation and a valid drivers license.
