We also have laying hens and/or breeding sets available (7-10 sets available). These are 4-5 months old. Most of these hens are 13-14 oz, lay 12-16g eggs, and will be paired with an unrelated roo (but within the same line). *Note: these birds have been in colony pens over winter and may have some feather loss on the back/head from mating.

Laying hens $12/each
Breeding sets: 4 hens/1 roo $50/set, 5 hens/1 roo $60/set

Our Jumbo Brown breeders came directly from Southwest Gamebirds. Out of 120 chicks hatched from them, we kept the 60 largest at 4 weeks of age, 35 largest at 8 weeks of age, and finally selected down to the largest/best at 12 weeks of age. Given the proper diet, chicks from our breeders are averaging slightly over 10 oz. at just 6 weeks of age. Our birds lay 14-16g eggs, some larger. We do not breed aggressive birds, and we do not knowingly pass any aggressive birds on to other people. We strive to breed birds who grow quickly to true jumbo weights, lay large eggs with no prolapse issues, and are not aggressive. Our jumbo browns can be feather sexed at 3 weeks of age and are mature at 6-8 weeks of age.

We also have a few Andalusian hens and/or Roos available. (Andalusian hens should NOT be mated to Andalusian Roos; for optimal results, pair with a pharaoh/brown roo.)

Best results are reached by using the following:
-feeding high-quality game bird starter (26-30% protein) for the first 3-6 weeks, switching to game bird layer (20-22% protein) after the first egg appears
-never let them run out of food
-never let them run out of water
-housing your quail in appropriate pens (either aviary-type enclosures with 4 foot ceilings OR cages no greater than 12 inches high…avoid any enclosures with ceilings between 12”-4’, which allow flush momentum to be great enough to cause fatal injury)
-providing 16 hours of ‘daylight’ to stimulate egg production
-keep at 3-5 birds per square foot in smaller layer cages; 1 square foot per bird for aviary settings

I generally meet people at the Shell station off I-40 exit 301, or at the Mayland Dollar General. Cookeville and/or Crossville meet-ups are available. Cash, PayPal, Venmo, and CashApp accepted.
